Hard Surface Design Mentorship will focus on the processes involved with creating cool looking and believable hard surface designs. We will begin with a foundation in mechanical design, studying and how to learn from the real world - then carrying that over into our own hard surface designs. We cover different idea generation methods and different techniques to develop the design to a finalized asset ready to go into a game or a film.

The course will be focusing primarily on design thinking, but also we cover how to use Blender, Photoshop and Zbrush to aid in the design process. And how 3D can help speed up the presentation phase later in the project, covering presentation techniques to really show off your design.

Live Classes

Live class will be hosted in Zoom, and Classes will be recorded for future reference.

Sunday 3PM UK Timezone

Each week's class will be comprised of live demos, feedback and paintovers ranging from 4-5 hours.

Feedback

Private Discord server will be created for students to communicate and to get feedback.

Pre-Requirement
  • Basic Understanding of Art and Digital Painting
  • Good understanding of Blender and Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of Zbrush is also recommended but not necessary
  • Passion for hard surface design!

Gavin has worked — primarily in outsourcing — on projects for companies such as Tencent, NetEase, Avalanche, Sumo, Eidos, Lucid, Lego, Netherrealm, Games Workshop, PUBG, ArtStation, Rocksteady, Sledgehammer, Frontier, Codemasters and many more.

Before becoming a Concept Artist, Gavin was employed for 8 years in the interior design industry, and also worked as a part-time teacher.
