Advanced Hard Surface Design Mentorship will focus on how to create cool looking and believable hard surface designs using a variety of different techniques. We will begin with a foundation in mechanical design, studying, and how to learn from the real world - then carrying that over into our own hard surface designs. We cover different idea generation methods and different techniques to develop the design to a finalized asset ready to go into a game or a film.
We will then focus on the workflow that I use when designing, with an overview of the techniques that I use on a daily basis, plus some other methods for a variety of approaches. The course is heavily geared towards sketching as a design tool, and then leading into 3D for detailed final presentation of your designs.
I will be covering idea generation methods that I use, and also how I like to expand my work out into cohesive projects in order to build systems and worlds so that I’m never stuck for things to design for my portfolio.
Then we’ll move onto the project part of the course, where I’ll guide you through creating a portfolio project, with weekly feedback and guidance, based on a system that you’ll create at the beginning in your brief.
The course will be primarily focused on design thinking through sketching and 3D, so you need to have an understanding of how to use Blender and Photoshop or similar software packages.
Live class will be hosted in Zoom, and Classes will be recorded for future reference.
Each week's class will be comprised of live demos, feedback and paintovers ranging from 4-5 hours.
Private Discord server will be created for students to communicate and to get feedback.
